An Evening Out With Friends From School At A Local Saloon Leads To Excessive And Hazardous Drinking And Symptoms Of An Alcohol Overdose

When Lois was in high school, she had established a reputation as an individual who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, had fun drinking with her friends. She seemed driven to excel academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only benefited from but one that also gave her some financial security.

After Lois finished high school, she applied to and was accepted into a greatly admired program in religion. Her rationale for this decision was that this subject matter would be a good foundation for law school and would not be similar to the preponderance of law school applicants who select political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the kind of individual who worked relentlessly to reach her objective and then would take a breather when she could. It just so happens, however, that the vast majority of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks were not associated with drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final examinations for her second year in law school were finished and elated with the fact that she had done extremely well on her exams, however, she felt like celebrating.

So Lois and several of her classmates went to a local pub where they had a few glasses of wine. As the evening went by, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In truth, she was having so much fun that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking about an-hour-and-a-half when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, in spite of this, her pals instantaneously knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for medical assistance because they suspected that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she had dodged a bullet and almost died from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was happy to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost died the previous night. Her Mother and Father knew how hard she worked at college and how little she permitted herself to experience a social life. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to avoid careless and irresponsible drinking.

As a result, they suggested that down the road, whenever a drinking circumstance unfolds, that she always drink responsibly. Lois agreed and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never again drink in an excessive and hazardous manner. In her own words, "I never thought that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local university newspaper. I now grasp the fact that excessive and hazardous drinking is not for me. I guarantee that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also had a lot of common sense. That is, she quickly knew that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would never make the same error again. In fact, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of abusive and excessive drinking can end in a loss of life.
