Iscar Adds Their Most Recent Innovations To A Long Line Of Prospering Hole Making Solutions
Iscar recently released several different drilling innovations to meet their customers needs. These recent products are Sumocham Drill, DR-DH and Deep Drills. Drawing off of their experience Iscar has come up with new and innovative ways to expand productivity for the end user. Here is a little bit about these brand new products, and how they will benefit the end user of these drills.
SUMOCHAM Drills
ISCAR's new SUMOCHAM drill family is an advanced development of the very thriving CHAMDRILL and CHAMDRILLJET drill families. The drill features twisted coolant nozzles with indexable drilling heads which are available in different head configurations for various material groups. SUMOCHAM drills can be used on milling centers or lathes.
SUMOCHAM features four different standard drill head geometries, designed for unmatchable performance and high reliability. The drill head is built with a sharp cutting edge and polished flutes. SUMOCHAM drilling heads are available in the diameter range of 8 to 25.9 mm. The drill head has ground flutes for smooth, constant chip flow and a ground gash for improved penetration.
The drill shank design is according to DIN 9766 standard, with available drilling depth to diameter ratios of 1.5XD, 3xD, 5XD and 8xD. All drill bodies feature coolant through holes. The accurate cylinder added to the clamping portion improves rigidity and reduces internal stresses. The rotation stopper planes are accurately ground, which enhance the control on the drilling head position and support, increasing tool performance and life. ISCAR's innovative SUMOCHAM drill line will furnish longer tool life and higher productivity.
DR-DH Deep Drills
DR-DH drills can accomplish drilling depth-to-diameter ratio of 7XD and up. Designed to be used on standard horizontal milling centers, turning, and multi-task machines. Use of supplementary machine and setup can be avoided. They will be available as semi-standard item in a diameter range of 25.4 to 69.5 mm (1.00 - 2.73").
Two versions will be available:
A Single Flute DR-DH-31.65-0350NC-2FS is a very rigid tool that has a patented chip gullet design. It was engineered for easily cut materials like cast iron and low alloyed steel.
A Double Flute DR-DH-31.65-0350NC-2FD has a double chip gullet for enhanced chip flow. It was designed for drilling gummy materials such as non-alloyed steel and high temperature alloys.
ISCAR DEEP HOLE DRILLS
With ISCAR's new solid carbide deep hole drills, you can safely drill up to 22 times diameter and arrive bottom10% faster than with other solid carbide drills - and six times faster than a HSS drill. This capability can speed up several high-volume operations. The deep-hole drilling station no longer needs to slow down a transfer line or stop it completely because a drill breaks.
Other target applications include deep holes for automotive, hydraulic blocks and die & mold work. A combination of features help the twist drills to cut faster, straighter,deeper, last longer and discharge chips more surely. A specialized high-strength core creates a more enduring drill point and allows for deeper flutes, enlarging the exit path for chips.
The drill tip itself has a 140 positive-point, four-margin design to preserve the edge, decrease thrust forces and assist centering and tracking. A post-coat polishing measure on the flutes, margins and cutting edges reduces friction and torque that can quickly snap a drill.
The brand new drills are available in standard diameters ranging from 5 to 10 mm, in 20 and 22 length to diameter ratios. Special sizes are available on request. All are made of IC908, a 10% cobalt submicron carbide grade, and comes with a TiAlN PVD coating, and can be reconditioned.

Brand New Cutters And Carbide Insert Arrangements From Iscar To Better Enhance The Machining Method Iscar is introducing Penta 34 carbide inserts with a new PB chipformer. The PB chipformer features a single cavity with a positive rake, neutral shoulder angle, and a honed edge. It is actually a C-type chipformer with a different frontal edge.
